Description

Low Walworth Hall is a large house dating from the late 17th and early 18th centuries, with 19th-century additions and alterations. It is constructed of partly-rendered coursed rubble, with a mid-19th century rear addition of dressed stone. The roofs are covered with Welsh slate, and there are brick chimney stacks. The house comprises an early 18th-century main block, a late 17th-century rear wing, and 19th-century additions to the left and left rear.

The garden front of the main block is of two builds, with a five-bay section and a two-bay section to the right, separated by a straight joint. The five-bay section features roughly shaped quoins, a central six-panel door recessed within a stone architrave with a frieze and cornice, replaced sashes with wedge lintels and projecting sills, and blocked windows in the end bays. The two-bay section has a low plinth and roughly shaped quoins. Both sections have a flat-coped parapet above a band, with ball finials at each end. The roof is steeply pitched with coped gables, and there are rebuilt end and ridge stacks.

To the right is a set-back two-storey bay, altered in the 20th century, with a replaced sash, a similar parapet with a ball finial, and a steeply-pitched roof with a coped right gable. A lower, two-storey, two-bay addition to the left of the main block, possibly a former barn, has two large mid-wall replaced sashes with wedge lintels and projecting sills; a blocked oval opening above this is set within a brick surround, likely a former pitching eye. It has a flat-coped parapet with a ball finial at the left and a steeply-pitched roof with a coped left gable. An old brick external chimney is present on the left return.

On the rear of the main block is a two-storey gabled wing, featuring two blocked, two-light mullioned windows. A mid-19th century L-shaped wing extends from the right return of the gabled wing, featuring sashes.

Inside, two ground-floor rooms have 18th-century cornices; there is also a two-flight, dogleg staircase with thin turned balusters and a ramped square-section handrail. A lean-to garage on the left return and a stone porch to the left of the gabled rear wing are not considered to be of special interest.
