Description

Milepost south of Carlbury Hall is a late 19th-century milepost made of cast iron, painted white with raised letters in black. It has a triangular shape with a sloping top and a semicircular back plate. The back plate features the words "DURHAM COUNTY." On the left side, there is a pointing hand indicating "BARNARD CASTLE 11 MILES," and on the right side, another pointing hand shows "DARLINGTON 5 MILES."
