Description

A pair of houses located in Carlbury Vale, High Coniscliffe, dating from the late 18th century and altered subsequently. The houses are constructed of roughcast rubble with pantiled roofs and rebuilt brick chimney stacks. Each house is two storeys high, with two windows each, No. 2 being situated on the right. No. 1 has a central four-panel door set within a gabled stone porch, along with 12-pane sash windows with projecting sills. No. 2 exhibits a replaced central door and replaced casement windows in original openings, also with projecting sills; the pantiles on its roof have been replaced. Raised roof verges are present, and end and central ridge stacks are incorporated. A two-storey gabled wing extends from the rear of No. 2. Attached stone sheds flanking the houses are not considered to be of particular architectural interest. No. 2 is included on the list for group value, despite the alterations it has undergone.
