Description

The George Hotel is a coaching inn that dates from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries, with later alterations and rear additions. It features a roughcast exterior and plain tile roofs, and it stands two storeys high with a first floor that has a window arrangement of 3:2:4.

The oldest section is on the left, which has a central door made of three vertical panels topped with a four-centred arch. This door is flanked by added canted bay windows, with three-light casement windows above on the first floor. There are stacks at the left end and to the left of the door.

The central range, built in the 18th century, has a central matching door flanked by large 20th-century three-light mullion-and-transom windows. Above the door on the first floor is a projecting sign featuring a cut-out profile of King George III, with two-light casement windows on either side. There are end stacks on this range as well.

The right range, built in the 19th century, has two matching doors to the left of centre, with large 20th-century mullion-and-transom windows below—three of which have three lights, and one to the right has two lights. The first floor features mullion windows with arrangements of three, four, and three lights, along with a two-light casement window to the right. Stacks are located in the centre and between the third and fourth windows.

There is a mounting block towards the left end of the right-hand range. Inside, in the ground-floor room to the right of the left-hand range, there is a chamfered ashlar fireplace.
