Description

The ruins of a medieval chapel stand within the rear garden of the Bath House, Tees View, built partly upon the foundations of a Roman bath house. Likely dating from the early 13th century, the chapel incorporates a Roman wall constructed around 260 AD. The ruins are constructed of coursed and squared rubble. A section of the Roman wall has been partially excavated, revealing thin stone lacing courses. Within the chapel remains, a fragmentary chamfered plinth and a round-arched, chamfered doorway are visible on the right side. A short, partly-rebuilt return wall to the right also displays fragments of a chamfered plinth and a small, reset round-arched window head at ground level. The Roman bath house is a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
