Description

The farm buildings located to the northwest of Baxter Wood Farmhouse date from the early 19th century and consist of three linked sections. The main part is an early 19th-century threshing barn, which has a mid-19th-century stable attached to its north side. To the east, there is a mid-19th-century L-plan range of barns that connects to the farmhouse's north wall, while to the west, there is a late 19th-century L-plan range of stables and loose boxes. The buildings are constructed from coursed masonry with dressed quoins and feature pantiled roofs, forming a U-shape that stretches along an east-west axis.

The two-storey threshing barn includes a first-floor boarded door on its west return and has a hipped roof over its east return. The stable, which has a loft above and is built against the barn's north wall, features three boarded doors on the ground floor, scattered windows, and a low-pitched roof that is hipped over its west return.

The two-storey L-plan range of barns to the east has scattered windows and a mid-height hen hole with a stone ledge in its east section. The north section of this range includes a pair of large 20th-century sliding doors and three fixed lights above a steeply-pitched roof that is hipped over the east return.

To the west, the single-storey L-plan range has boarded doors and a roof that is hipped over its south return. There are also attached gin-gang and 20th-century brick additions to the south, which are not of special interest but are included for their group value.
