Description

There are four statues located east of the Durham Miners Association Offices, dating from 1874. One of the statues is signed by J. Whitehead from Westminster, London, and they were originally from the Miners' Hall on North Road. The statues stand on ashlar plinths that feature granite name plaques. Each marble statue is slightly larger than life size and is supported by curved, panelled plinths. The names Forman, Patterson, Macdonald, and Crawford are incised in plain letters on the plinths, and each statue holds a book or scroll, with the statue of Macdonald being signed.
