Description

Low Green, located 55 metres north of High Green Farmhouse, is a house with an extension that was originally an outbuilding. The main house dates from the late 18th century, while the extension was restored between 1981 and 1982 after a fire. The house is constructed of tooled squared sandstone with a stone-flagged roof and features stone chimney stacks. The extension is made of squared sandstone rubble and has a slate roof.

The two-storey, three-bay house has raised-and-chamfered quoins and a central replaced door set within a 20th-century glazed porch. The windows are replaced four-pane sashes with flush lintels and projecting chamfered sills. The roof is steeply pitched, with coped gables and shaped kneelers, and the end stacks are corniced with water tables.

The two-storey, four-bay extension has openings in renewed surrounds, including a replaced door in the third bay and replaced four-pane sashes. It also has a steeply-pitched roof with renewed coping on the right gable. The right return features an external stone stairway leading to a boarded door in its original surround with an extended lintel, as well as replaced four-pane sashes towards the rear and a small semicircular opening with a ledge in the gable.

At the rear, there are scattered four-pane sashes, some in original openings. The house includes a central mid-wall round-arched stair window, and a similar window was inserted into the extension in 1981. The extension is included in the listing because it is integral to the house.

This building should not be confused with Low Green Farmhouse, Low Side, Mickleton.
