Description

Numbers 2 and 3, along with a range of sheds to the left, form a terrace of three houses attached to Syke House, which is dated 1790 on its door lintel and has been altered in the 19th century. The sheds date from the mid-19th century. The buildings are constructed from tooled squared sandstone. Syke House has a stone-flagged roof with an imitation-slate rear pitch, while Numbers 2 and 3 feature large purple slates and stone chimney stacks, with Syke House positioned to the right.

The terrace is two storeys high, with each house having two bays and flush alternating quoins. Syke House has a four-panel door in the left bay, set in a flush surround with a lintel inscribed with "J & M.D. 1790" (for John and Mary Dent). To the right, there is a replaced casement window with a flush lintel that is grooved to imitate a flat arch, and above it is an identical window and lintel. Numbers 2 and 3 have paired four-panel doors with flush tooled-and-margined surrounds, flanked by replaced four-pane sash windows, with two identical windows above. The terrace has a continuous steeply-pitched roof with coped gables and shaped kneelers, and the coping is present at the junction between Numbers 2 and 3. The end and ridge stacks feature top ledges and water tables.

The one-storey, four-bay range of sheds has Dutch and boarded doors and a monopitch roof that slopes to the rear. The right return of Syke House has a low plinth and a small fixed light in the gable. The rear of Syke House includes some throughstones and scattered openings, including two small 12-pane sash windows.
