Description

Nook Farmhouse is a small farmhouse with a later extension and boundary wall, dating from the early to mid-19th century. A plaque above the front door is dated 1845. The farmhouse is built of squared sandstone rubble with a stone-flagged roof and stone chimney stacks.

The two-storey, two-bay farmhouse has alternating, tooled-and-margined quoins. The right-hand side has a door with six flush panels and a two-pane overlight, set within a chamfered surround with a four-centred head and impost bands. Above the door is a plaque with raised lettering: “Thomas and Elizabeth Dent 1845”. There is a blank bay above the door. To the left of the door are twelve-pane sashes with flush lintels and projecting, chamfered sills. The roof has coped gables and shaped kneelers. The chimney stacks have top ledges and water tables.

A single-storey, one-bay extension is set back from the main building and features a single twelve-pane sash window and alternating quoins to the left. This extension has a coped left gable with a shaped kneeler.

To the left of the extension stands a tall, flat-coped wall, to which a lean-to range is attached at the rear.

At the rear of the farmhouse, a boarded door is set within a flush surround with top blocks. An altered one-storey range to the right, under a monopitch roof, has two doors in similar surrounds.

Inside, the sitting room contains a large, imported late 17th century stone fireplace with bolection moulding and an enriched corniced mantel supported on consoles.
