Description

The Lune Railway Viaduct is a disused railway viaduct that spans the River Lune. It was built in 1868 for the Tees Valley Railway Company. The structure is made of snecked, rock-faced stone and features grey-brick arches.

It is supported by four battered piers and end sections, which hold up five near-semicircular arches arranged in seven rows of header bond. The solid coped parapet, marked by a band at track level, includes end piers topped with pyramidal caps. At the north end, there are raking flat-coped retaining walls that are positioned at right angles.

The viaduct crosses the parishes of Lunedale and Mickleton.
