Description

The Old School is a former school building, now a house, located in Mickleton. It was built around 1840, with additions made in 1906 to the west. The original structure features coursed rubble, stone-flagged roofs, and stone chimney stacks, while the later additions are made of rock-faced masonry with Welsh slate roofs. The original one-storey building has six bays, with the east side displaying six 16-pane sash windows set in pointed-arched openings that have flush voussoirs and projecting sills. The roof has coped gables, end and ridge stacks with top bands and water tables, and three cylindrical metal ventilators along the ridge.

The lower one-bay south extension includes a 12-pane sash window and a bell opening in the south gable, with an entrance on the west return. The 1906 additions feature 12- and 15-pane sashes and a datestone from 1906 on the gabled south wall of the central addition, with roofs that also have coped gables. A flat-roofed addition from the late 20th century at the north end of the original range is not considered of special interest.
