Description
This milestone, located south-west of Broadwood Cottages, was likely erected in 1793 for the Gateshead-Wolsingham turnpike. It is made of sandstone and features a round-topped block that stands about half a metre high. The number 16 is painted on the side facing the road and is also incised on the stone, although the incised figures are aligned slightly differently.
