Description
The East Barn at Broadwood Home Farm is a barn, byres, and cart shed built in the late 19th century. It is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings, featuring red tile ventilation pipes and a Welsh slate roof. The barn is two stories tall with seven bays, while the cart shed is one story with two bays.
The south elevation facing the yard includes round-headed openings with voussoirs for byre doors located in the second and fifth bays, and a full-height cart entrance in the seventh bay. Similar round-headed openings are found flanking the first door and to the left of the second door, while a plain wood lintel marks the vehicle entrance in the sixth bay. The first floor has three wide pitching doors, each divided into two or three boarded sections.
To the right, the one-story cart shed features a plain wood lintel over the vehicle entrance in the left bay. The right return gable of the two-story section has a tall round-headed cart entrance. Triangular groups of six ventilation pipes are regularly spaced flanking the high cart entrances. The rear elevation facing the road has two round-headed ground-floor boarded openings and four wide louvred loft ventilation panels.
