Description
Woodlands Hall is an early 19th-century house built for Thomas White. It is constructed of thinly-rendered sandstone rubble with quoins, a plinth, and ashlar dressings, with a roof of graduated Lakeland slate. The house has two storeys and three bays. A six-step approach leads to a central Tuscan porch, featuring a half-glazed door with sidelights under a segmental, radial fanlight. Above the door, a 12-pane sash window has a flat stone lintel, projecting stone sill, and a label mould. Flanking the central bay are full-height canted bays with stone mullions; all windows are fitted with fine glazing bars. Bands are visible at the top of the plinth, slightly above the ground-floor sill level, and at the first-floor level. A top gutter cornice runs along the roofline. The low-pitched hipped roof has a central well and two wide, corniced ashlar chimneys, each topped with a single row of square yellow pots. The left return has a French window on the left side and a trompe l'oeil sash in the right first-floor bay. The right return has similar sashes on the first floor, and a basement with a panelled door in a plain stone surround, and irregular fenestration.
Inside, the house features 6-panel doors with panelled reveals and architraves. The staircase, located in a curved well, has a wreath and curtail.
