Description
This is a barn located west of High Knitsley Farmhouse, dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed from thin courses of sandstone rubble, featuring quoins and ashlar dressings, and has a stone-flagged roof with a stone ridge. The barn is two storeys high and consists of five bays, built in two phases. The first build has three bays with quoining. There are blocked doors in the second bay on the ground floor and in the third bay on the first floor. Side stone steps lead to a boarded Dutch loft door in the fourth bay, all of which have irregular-block jambs and flat stone lintels. A partly-glazed hit-and-miss light has been inserted into the blocked ground-floor door, and there are vent slits on the first floor. The left return gable features a boarded door on the right side of the ground floor, which is situated under a thin wood lintel, with two rows of vent slits above. The barn was derelict at the time of the survey.
