Description
This is a field barn located to the northeast of Dean Howl Farmhouse, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed from coursed squared sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings and features a stone-flagged roof with stone gable copings. The barn is two storeys high, consisting of three bays, with a one-storey, one-bay extension on the left.
Large flat stone lintels are present above an empty door and a square boarded pitching hole above it, which has a projecting stone sill. There is a similar lintel above a boarded door to the right of the extension. Ventilation slits are located on each floor near the outer edges of the bays. The right return gable includes side stone steps leading to a boarded loft door, which has a thick wood lintel. The roof has a low pitch. This building is included for its group value.
