Description
This milestone, located approximately 250 metres north of High Alder Heads, dates from the late 18th century and was part of the West Auckland to Corbridge turnpike. It is made of painted ashlar and has a quadrant-section shape, standing about half a metre high with a flat top. The north face features the incised letters "WA 16" and the south face displays "C 14," both in Roman capitals and painted black. The stone itself is painted white.
