Description
This milestone, located about 70 metres south of the junction with Pan Lane, was likely erected in 1793 for the Wolsingham to Gateshead turnpike. It is made of painted tooled ashlar and has a narrow square-section block that stands approximately ½ metre high. The north face features the number 18 incised, while the south face displays the number 5, both set diagonally to the road. The stone is white with black letters.
