Description
This is a quarry worker's house, dated 1812, as indicated by the initials "J.C." on the door lintel. The house is constructed of roughly squared sandstone rubble with carefully dressed ashlar stone details and quoins, topped with a stone-flagged roof and an ashlar chimney at the right-hand end. It is two storeys high and three bays wide. The central door is boarded and set within a plain stone surround, with the words "SATLEY GROVE" inscribed in Roman capitals on the lintel. The left bay has a 16-pane sash window with a matching stone surround. The right bay has 12-pane sashes; the lower sash is a later insertion and has a stone surround on the first floor and a concrete surround in a similar style on the ground floor.
