Description
Satley Mill is a water-driven corn mill, likely built in the 18th century. It is constructed from sandstone rubble with quoins and ashlar dressings, topped with a stone-flagged roof. The building has two storeys and four bays, with a left return bank entry leading to the loft. The east elevation features a flat stone lintel over a door on the left, with wooden jambs, and similar lintels above the scattered windows, which contain wooden frames. Inside, there are millstones and some machinery, although the interior cannot be thoroughly inspected due to its current state. The water wheel has been removed and is now located at the Beamish Museum in Stanley parish. At the time of the survey, the mill was empty and in a derelict condition.
