Description

This milestone, located 420 metres east of St. Oswald's Hill Head Farm, is likely from around 1757, coinciding with the opening of the nearby turnpike. It is made of sandstone and stands 0.65 metres high. The stone features a segmental top and has the figure "19" incised on it, indicating the distance in miles to Newcastle, with the numbers painted in black.
