Description

This milestone, located a quarter mile north of Knowesgate in Northumberland, dates back to the 18th century. It is made of painted sandstone and stands approximately 2 feet 6 inches high. One side of the triangular stone is inscribed with "OTTERBURN," while the other side displays the distances to "NEWCASTLE 8 MILES" and "JEDBRO 34 MILES."
