Description
Old Temperance is a house that was formerly an inn, dating from the early 19th century with an 18th-century core. It is built of dressed stone and ashlar, topped with a Welsh slate roof. The building has a double span design, is two storeys high, and features three bays with alternating quoins. The masonry on the ground floor is different and was heightened in the early 19th century.
The central entrance is a boarded door set within a chamfered, tooled-and-margined alternating surround. The ground floor has 12-pane sash windows, while the first floor has 9-pane sashes, both in similar surrounds. The rear span includes a 20th-century porch and similar windows.
The gabled roofs have kneelers and ridged coping. The front span has two small stone end stacks, while the rear span features a large stone conjoined triple-shafted ridge stack and double-shafted end stacks.
