Description
The walls, piers, and gate flanking the drive to the rear yard of Eggleston Hall are likely from the late 18th century. They are constructed of coursed squared sandstone in a dry construction method, featuring ashlar dressings and piers. The north wall curves around the graveyard to the west and continues as a garden wall, standing approximately one metre high with gently-rounded stone coping. The railings have been removed. In the center of the garden, there are two square piers with domed pyramidal tops that flank a later scrolled gate and support a simple curved overthrow. Steps curve from these piers into the garden, flanked by curved retaining walls that match the height of the drive wall. The south wall, designed in a similar style, curves to flank the steps leading to the garden, with the ends of the returns featuring flat-coped low square piers.
