Description
Eggleston Bridge is a bridge that dates largely from the 17th century, likely incorporating elements from a 15th-century structure. It is constructed from coursed squared sandstone and sandstone rubble, with ashlar dressings. The bridge features two high segmental arches supported by two rows of voussoirs. Fragments of two courses of squared blocks in the north-west abutment suggest that the bridge originally had a hump-backed profile at the north end. The central pointed cutwaters are made of similar larger blocks. There is a band at road-bed level beneath the coursed stone parapets, which have chamfered block coping. Iron clamps have been removed from the coping. Part of the bridge is located in the civil parish of Ronaldkirk.
