Description

The ice house located to the north of Eggleston Hall is likely from the 18th century. It is set on a high earth mound, with an entrance on the west side that features an ashlar lintel supported by rubble piers. Inside, there is a straight, barrel-vaulted passage approximately 2 meters long leading to two paired barrel-vaulted chambers. The front pier has a V-plan and is situated on the dividing wall, which supports rough segmental arches. The high rear openings include one that is blocked. The floor is made of earth, level with the entrance.
