Description
Old Park Farmhouse, with an attached cottage and byre, is a farmhouse dating from the early 18th century with some alterations. It is constructed from thin courses of squared sandstone, featuring quoins and ashlar dressings, with roofs made of stone flags and Welsh slate. The building has a linear plan and consists of two storeys with four wide bays, alongside a one-storey, one-bay byre on the left.
The farmhouse on the right has a renewed central door set in a slightly chamfered stone surround with alternate-block jambs. It features rough stone lintels and sills above top-hung 20th-century casements. The cottage on the left has a similar stone surround for its right-end four-panel door on pin hinges, as well as a 16-pane sash window on the ground floor to the left, a horizontal sliding sash above, and 12-pane sashes with broad glazing bars on the right. The roof of the cottage is covered with stone flags, while the farmhouse has a Welsh slate roof, and each has a tall square chimney on the right.
The byre on the left has a blank front and a roof of Welsh slate. At the rear, there is a parallel range behind the cottage. Inside, the cottage features a wide fire cornice and a heck post, with a winder stair located to the right of the passage beside the heck post. There is also a cast iron kitchen range, made by Little of Alston, set in a plain stone surround recessed under the cornice.
