Description

Westernhopeburn Cottage is a farm cottage, byre, and loft dating from the 17th century and later. It is constructed from roughly-coursed and squared limestone rubble, with some quoins, and features a stone-flagged roof. The building has two storeys and six bays, with the left two bays added later.

The left side has a ground-floor boarded door with a stone surround and a similar door on the first floor. There is a thin stone lintel above an inserted door on the right side of the ground floor. The central two bays have flat stone lintels above a central boarded door and a boarded pitching door above, as well as a partly-glazed window to the right on the ground floor. The house portion, located in the two lower right bays, includes a three-light stone-mullioned window on the ground floor and two irregularly-placed first-floor windows, one being a two-light casement and the other a two-light horizontal sliding sash. A square chimney is located at the right end, and the right return gable features a door in a plain stone surround. The interior has not been inspected.
