Description
High Wooley Farmhouse and Cottage comprise an early 18th-century farmhouse with an adjoining cottage, likely dating to the early 19th century. The farmhouse is constructed of coursed sandstone rubble with an asbestos tile roof, while the cottage has a Welsh slate roof. Large 19th-century cream-brick chimney stacks are a prominent feature.
The farmhouse is two storeys and an attic, with three bays. It features squared alternating quoins. The front door has been replaced and is set within a lobed, bolection-moulded surround. Windows are a mix of replaced sashes and casements, set in openings dating to the 19th and 20th centuries. A boarded opening is visible under the eaves. The steeply pitched roof has swept eaves and raised verges, punctuated by tall end stacks. Two pigeon-loft openings, complete with stone ledges, are set into the gable of the right return. A single-storey wing on the right return of the farmhouse has a boarded door and a steeply pitched roof. A narrow, two-storey stair wing, concealed under a pent roof, extends from the center rear of the farmhouse.
The lower, two-storey, four-bay cottage has a replaced door set behind a late 20th-century, off-centre brick porch. It has replaced sashes with flush lintels and projecting sills, and two blocked windows on the first floor. A pitched roof finishes the cottage, with a stack at the left end. A similar two-storey gabled wing is attached to the rear of the cottage.
