Description
High Crooked Well is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the early 18th century with later additions. It is constructed of sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings and features stone-flagged and Welsh slate roofs. The building is two storeys high and has two bays, accompanied by a two-storey, two-bay byre and loft to the left, and a one-storey, two-bay barn further left. There is also a one-storey, one-bay pent extension on the right.
The house has a boarded door set in a square-headed chamfered stone surround on the right side, with sash windows to the left; the ground floor windows are late 19th century, while the upper floor features 16 panes. The left cow-house has a boarded door and sash windows above with glazing bars. The barn includes a full-height cart entrance and a loft opening on the right. The right pent extension has a doorway to the right, a small square window on the left, and pigeon holes with stone shelves in the upper part. A wide square chimney is located on the left side of the house.
Inside, there is a stone fire surround with a projecting lintel supported by double-cyma-moulded corbels, panelled cupboards to the right of the fire, and large beams. The older part of the building to the right of the current structure has been demolished.
