Description

The cow shed, stable, and hay loft located to the south of Dry Gill West Farmhouse were built in 1829, as indicated by the date on the keystone. The structure is made of coursed, roughly squared sandstone with pecked ashlar dressings and quoins, topped with a stone-flagged roof. It is symmetrical, featuring two storeys and three bays. The central round-headed cart door is set under an arch with voussoirs and the dated key, flanked by alternate-block jambs. To the left, there is a boarded door, while the right side has a blocked door, both with flat stone lintels. The first floor includes eight very narrow vent slits. The low-pitched hipped roof has a square ridge ventilator. The left side has small windows with glazing bars, and the right side features a stable door with a loft door above, along with two groups of four pigeon holes.
