Description
The war memorial in Stanhope, known as St. John's Chapel War Memorial, was created around 1919 by Beattie and Co. from Carlisle. It is made of white marble and stands 2 meters high. The memorial features a square pedestal that supports a life-size figure of a soldier, who is depicted with his hands resting on a rifle and his head bowed. The inscriptions on the memorial commemorate the dead from the Great War and the Second Great War, as well as the seven airmen who lost their lives at Green Laws in 1943.
