Description

Old Farmhouse at Hollin Hall West is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed from limewashed sandstone rubble with dressed quoins and features a concrete-tiled roof and brick stacks. The building has two storeys and four bays.

On the ground floor, there is a late 20th-century part-glazed door located in the third bay from the left, along with 20th-century casements with two and three lights set in old flush surrounds, featuring deeply-chamfered reveals. The first floor has a blank bay above the door and three similar casements in enlarged openings, which have tooled-and-margined lintels. To the right of the gabled return, there is a truncated, stepped external stack. The steeply-pitched roof has slightly-swept eaves and coped gables, with a rebuilt chimney at the left end and a right end chimney made of narrow, hand-made brick. At the rear, there is a later two-bay outshut that includes four- and twelve-pane horizontal sliding sashes.

Inside, the right room on the ground floor features a square-headed fireplace with chamfered jambs and a roughly-shaped lintel.
