Description
The Cottage is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the early 20th century. It is constructed of red sandstone random rubble, with a colour-washed section on the left, and features a thatched roof with a large stepped lateral stack positioned to the left of the entrance. The building has a three-cell plan with a cross passage and stands two storeys high, displaying a two-bay front on the left and a one-bay front on the right. Most of the windows are 20th-century wooden casements. The eaves project over the left end bay, while a right-side window features a mullioned and transomed design above a slate roof, which has a 20th-century three-light bay addition that abuts the stack. Beyond this, there is a slate roof projection designed to direct rainwater away from the entrance and the stairway below. An early 19th-century leaded iron three-light casement window is found beyond, along with the remains of a similar two-light casement below it. The entrance is located beside the stack, accessed by an external flight of six steps. The return gable ends contain 20th-century two-light casements, likely inserted when the stacks were removed. The interior has not been seen.
