Description
Cleveland Cottage is a house built in the late 18th century to early 19th century, with some alterations made in the late 19th century. The building features roughcast masonry with ashlar dressings and a graduated green slate roof with brick stacks. It is two stories tall with a three-bay front that has a low plinth and raised, chamfered quoins. The central entrance, dating from the mid-19th century, consists of a six-panel door with a radial fanlight above, set in an archivolt under a corniced hood supported by consoles. The flanking canted bays have a four-pane window in the center and two-pane windows on the sides. On the first floor, there are renewed twelve-pane sash windows; the central window has an eared architrave with a projecting sill, while the flanking windows have raised surrounds. The moderately-pitched roof features coped gables with shaped kneelers and two gable stacks, one of which was heightened in the 20th century. At the rear, there is a staircase window with a sixteen-pane sash and a radial head. There is also a two-story, one-bay addition to the right, which is not of special interest.
