Description

The garden walls and piers serving Nos. 8 to 15 High Row are likely from the early 19th century and are constructed from sandstone rubble. They form a triangular area of sloping land between High Row and Low Road, enclosed by a wall that stands between 1.5 to 2.0 metres high with a flat coping. This area is divided by north-south walls into seven separate walled gardens, which correspond to the properties numbered 8 to 15 on High Row. Several of the gardens to the east feature a terrace to the north, with mainly rebuilt low retaining walls. There are three square-plan piers with rounded caps and ball finials located opposite Nos. 8 and 9 High Row. These structures are included for their group value.
