Description
The Mansion House is a substantial dwelling, dating to the late 18th century with an early 19th-century addition and a later wing at the rear. The main block is constructed of roughcast masonry with painted ashlar dressings, topped by a graduated green slate roof and brick stacks. The addition has a similar appearance, while the rear wing is built of dressed sandstone with a pantiled roof, a double course of sandstone flags at the eaves, and ashlar stacks.
The three-storey, three-bay main block has a low plinth, a ground-floor sill band, raised and chamfered quoins, and sash windows in raised surrounds. The entrance features a part-glazed four-panel door with a radial fanlight and archivolt, set within a pedimented Tuscan doorcase with a fluted frieze and angle paterae; a twelve-pane sash window sits to the left. The first floor has twelve-pane sashes, while the second floor has nine-pane sashes. The low-pitched roof has coped gables with shaped kneelers and two rebuilt end chimneys.
The low, two-storey, two-bay addition includes a boarded door set in a raised surround and a blocked carriage arch to the left. The carriage arch has a raised surround with a keystone and impost blocks, a latticed casement, and a blocked window above. The moderately-pitched roof has a coped right gable.
At the rear, two round-arched staircase windows are visible. The two-storey, three-bay rear wing has nine-pane sashes in raised surrounds and a steeply-pitched hipped roof with two stepped and corniced ridge stacks.
