Description

Pear Tree Cottage and its attached outbuilding are likely from the late 18th century. The structure features thin courses of rubble with quoins and ashlar dressings, topped with pantiled roofs and some stone-flagged eaves. The main block is two stories tall and has four bays, while the right extension is a single story with two bays.

The second bay contains a six-panel door, with the upper panels being glazed, set beneath a flat stone lintel. Similar lintels are found above boarded doors in the fourth bay and at the top of the side stone steps, which are positioned at a right angle to the elevation in the third bay. The first bay has late 19th-century sash windows with flat stone lintels and projecting stone sills.

The right extension features a boarded Dutch door on the left and a small square boarded window beneath a thin wood lintel. There is also a boarded door with a flat stone lintel beneath an external stair. The main roof has stone eaves and a small chimney at the right end, while the left end of the ridge shows damage from a removed chimney. The return gables are accented with large triangular coping blocks.
