Description
The former manse to Hamsterley Baptist Chapel, now a private house, dates back to 1774, as indicated by the date above the chapel door. It is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble with quoins and ashlar dressings, though some areas have been rendered. The roof is made of synthetic stone with stone gable coping and a yellow brick chimney, while the extension features Welsh slate. The building is two storeys high with two bays, along with a two-storey, two-bay extension on the left.
The main entrance on the right has a plain stone surround, which is now rendered, leading to a partly-glazed six-panel door. To the left, there is a late 19th-century sash window beneath a rendered lintel with an old stone sill. The first floor has two 20th-century windows, each with similar sills and renewed lintels at the eaves. The roof, which is continuous with the chapel, has left gable coping, a removed kneeler, and a chimney at the left end.
The left extension features a blocked door on the right, a plain sash window on the ground floor, and a 20th-century window above, both under flat stone lintels. It has a low-pitched roof with a chimney at the left end. The building is included for its group value with the chapel.
