Description
Pond House Cottage, together with the attached archway, originally served as a service wing and yard entrance to Hamsterley House. It is now a separate dwelling. The cottage was constructed of coursed sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings and quoins. The roof of the cottage is of graduated stone flags, with a stone gable coping on the left side. The archway has a pantile roof with stone-flagged eaves. The cottage is two storeys high with three irregular bays. Attached to the left is a high one-bay archway. The ground floor of the cottage has a C20 door to the left of the centre, flanked by C20 three-light casement windows with glazing bars. The first floor has two two-light casement windows in a similar style, with projecting stone sills and lintels obscured by the eaves. A segmental arch is located on the left side, with voussoirs set into the wall, and is slightly lower than the eaves level. A continuous ridge runs over the archway and the cottage, with a high corniced chimney located to the right of the centre.
