Description

Prospect House is a house dating from the mid-18th century, with a late 19th-century addition and alterations. The main block is constructed of thin courses of squared sandstone, featuring quoins and ashlar dressings, while the rear additions are made of snecked stone. The roofs are covered with stone flags, and include stone gable copings, Welsh slate, a yellow brick chimney, and pantiles. The building has an L-plan layout with an added wing at the left rear.

The main block is two storeys high and has three bays, along with a one-storey, one-bay pent addition. A central half-glazed door is set in a porch with bargeboards. There are canted bay windows on either side, each with bracketed cornices. The first-floor windows, which are late 19th-century sashes, include a central narrow window with roughly-cut voussoirs, though this is partly obscured by ivy. The roof features moulded kneelers, very tall end chimneys, and a corniced yellow brick chimney on the rear wing. The left pent extension has a pantiled roof, while the left return shows a blank gable on the main block, with a boarded door in the pent extension.

At the rear, there is a gabled three-storey, one-bay wing that has late 19th-century sashes with flat stone lintels and sills. Inside, the main range has six-panel doors and a dado rail in the central passage. The right ground-floor room features a round-headed cupboard with shaped shelves, and a chimney piece from around 1900, along with a dentilled stucco cornice. There is also a corner fire in the 18th-century right rear wing, which has a 20th-century fire surround.
