Description
Hamsterley Post Office is a house with attached outbuildings, part of which now serves as a Post Office. The building likely dates from the mid-18th century, with the outbuildings from the early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed sandstone rubble, featuring quoins and ashlar dressings. The house has a Welsh slate roof with stone gable copings, while the outbuildings have a pantile roof and brick chimneys.
The house is two storeys high and has two bays, while the Post Office section is one storey and also has two bays, with the second bay being lower. The house features a 20th-century door set in a plain stone surround on the right side, with late 19th-century sash windows that have flat stone lintels and sills on the left and above the door, the latter being narrower. The attached outbuildings on the right include a boarded Dutch door in the right bay, with a wall letter-box to the right, and a large late 19th-century sash window in the left bay, which has a flat stone lintel and a projecting stone sill.
The house has end chimneys, with one located at the right end of the higher outbuilding.
