House, now shop. c1850 with C20 shop probably replacing earlier shop. Ashlar with rubble returns; roof has French tiles. Classical style. 3 storeys; 3-window range. Step up to 10-panel door and blocked overlight with 2 quadrant panels at right in round-headed arch with rusticated voussoirs in ground floor with channelled rustication. Stone plinth and rusticated quoins. Plate-glass windows to shop front filling remainder of ground floor under large fascia. 12-pane first-floor sashes in architraves under floating cornices on consoles; 9-pane second-floor sashes in lugged architraves. Rusticated quoins above first floor, and modillioned eaves cornice. Roof has corniced end chimneys in centre of front slope, with Tudor-style octagonal corniced chimney pots. INTERIOR: not inspected. HISTORY: plaque at left of building records it as the site of the old store house and hospital of the Durham Militia from 1759.
