Description
No. 27 Horse Market is a house that has been converted into a shop and flat. It likely dates from the late 18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. The building is constructed from coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings, and it has a roof made of stone slates featuring a stone ridge and stone gable copings. The chimney is part of a brick stack located on the ridge of the adjacent No. 29.
The building is two storeys tall with an attic and has a two-window range. The low ground floor includes a wide passage entrance on the right, which is set under a painted lintel. To the left, the shop front features plate-glass windows that are canted towards a glazed door on the right, complete with transom lights beneath a plain fascia. The upper storey has plain sash windows with flat stone lintels and projecting stone sills. The roof has eaves with a cast-iron gutter supported by moulded wood brackets, and there are two gabled dormers with plain sashes on the fronts and returns, along with pierced bargeboards. The chimney is likely shared with the brick stack at the right end of No. 29. The interior has not been inspected.
