Description
No. 19 Horse Market is a house that was later converted into a shop. It dates from the mid to late 18th century, with a 20th-century shop front that likely replaced a 19th-century one. The exterior features painted incised stucco with painted ashlar dressings, and the roof is covered with synthetic slates, complete with stone gable coping and a rendered chimney. The building has three storeys and a two-window range. On the left side, there is a round-headed arch leading to a passage to Well Yard, which has stepped rusticated voussoirs. The late 20th-century shop front on the right includes a full-height plate-glass window with a glazed door to the left, topped by a large fascia. Above this, there are plain sashes in plain reveals, and smaller four-pane sashes on the second floor. The roof features a stone gable coping with a cyma-moulded kneeler and a chimney at the right end. The rear elevation displays a relieving arch and an elliptical stone head over the passage. The interior has not been inspected. This building is included for its group value.
