Description

This is a mid-to-late 18th-century house, now used as a shop and flat, located in Horse Market, Barnard Castle. The building is constructed of coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings, and has a roof of stone slates. It is three storeys high and has a two-window front. A 20th-century shop front occupies the left side, featuring an earlier stone stall riser and a painted fascia without a cornice. A 20th-century glazed door and overlight provide access to the house. The first floor has renewed fixed windows with transom lights, while the second floor has plain sash windows. All windows have flat stone lintels and projecting stone sills. The roof features a stone gable coping on the right, resting on a cyma-moulded kneeler, as well as ridge chimneys; the left chimney is rendered, and the right is brick, both with stone coping. The interior of the building was not inspected.
