Description

Nos. 1 and 3 Galgate is a house that has been converted into a house and two shops. It dates from the mid-18th century and features 20th-century shop fronts. The building has white-painted render with painted ashlar dressings and a roof covered with synthetic tiles. The chimneys are made of stone on the left side, yellow brick on the right, and there is incised render at the rear.

The structure has two low storeys and a three-window range, with the left bay being wider. There is a painted tooled 18th-century stone surround to a low boarded passage door located to the right of centre. To the right of this door is a plain shop front with a recessed entrance. The left shop front has a full-width fascia that breaks forward over a canted bay window, which features small upper lights. Moulded brackets support a near-central door, while a plain sash window with a projecting painted sill is situated to the right.

On the first floor, there are plain sash windows that are recessed above each shop window and the passage door, and the eaves are low. The roof has gable coping and a moulded kneeler at the right end. There is a tall coursed stone chimney on the left, a tall brick chimney on the right, and a rear chimney that rises from the eaves, featuring incised render and a moulded cornice.
