Description
Nos. 21 and 23 Castle Square is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the early 18th century and has had some alterations in the 19th century. The ground floor is finished in painted brick, while the first floor features grey brick with red brick dressings. The building has a plain-tile roof and a brick stack at the left end.
It is two stories tall with an attic and has a three-window range. To the left of the center, there is a six-panelled door with a decorative overlight and a moulded wood architrave. To the right of the center is a 20th-century glazed door, flanked by two 19th-century shop windows with six panes each. There is an angled bay to the left with a flat roof. A brick band separates the ground and first floors, and the first floor has three four-pane sash windows. The building features a shaped brick cornice at the base of the parapetted eaves and a flat-roofed dormer located to the left of the center. The roof is half-hipped on the right side. The interior has not been inspected.
