Description
The property at 1 and 3 High Street, Benson, is a house, now divided into two dwellings. It likely dates from the late 17th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. The walls are rendered over stone rubble, with a plain-tile roof, and brick stacks. The house originally had a two-unit lobby-entry plan. It has a three-window front, with a central four-panel part-glazed door. Modern metal casements fill the ground and first floors. A flat band runs between the ground and first floors. The roof is half-hipped to the left, and has a central ridge stack and an internal stack to the left. To the right is a further late 17th century house, originally with a one-window front on its original elevation. It has two storeys and an attic, and includes a 20th-century porch with a glazed door and a wooden casement window to the left. Flat bands are present between the ground and first floors. Further 20th-century wood casements are located on the first floor and in the half-hipped gable of the attic. The right-hand return wall has irregular placement of casement windows. The interior has not been inspected.
